WA councils can't yet make you keep your cat at home, but a bill announced in February 2026 would let them. Cat netting turns a patio, side path or yard into a safe run now.

We sell the netting and portable enclosures that do the job, and if you'd rather have it built, local installers around Perth use our netting.

Build it yourself, or have it built?

A freestanding enclosure goes together without drilling, so it suits renters and anyone who might move.

Catnets doesn't install, but we work with these local businesses to make sure our netting goes up correctly and the job is done well. Contact them directly for a measure and quote.

Perth's cat rules

Under WA's Cat Act 2011, cats must be sterilised, microchipped and registered with your council by six months old (City of Perth). Councils can't currently require cats to stay home.

In February 2026 the WA Government announced the Cat Amendment (Local Laws) Bill 2026, which would let councils keep cats on their owners' property or set curfews (WA Government).

Questions we get from Perth

Can I use a portable enclosure in a rental?

Yes. Our portable enclosures stand on their own and need no drilling, so nothing is fixed to the property.

How much netting do I need?

Measure the space and put the sizes into the DIY cat run builder, which works out the netting and fixings.

Will a portable enclosure stand up to wind?

A portable enclosure shouldn't blow over. If you live in a windy spot, you can peg the frame to the ground, or weigh it down with sand bags if it sits on a hard surface. Read the help article.
