City living and apartment life doesn’t mean your cats have to miss out on sunshine and fresh air. Urban cats have the same needs as cats who live in the ‘burbs and love to breathe in fresh air and stretch out in the sunshine.

There are many ways you can provide a safe outdoor space for your cat on a balcony or verandah with either a freestanding Enclosure or by using cat netting to secure the area.

Of course, building a cat enclosure on a verandah or a balcony can pose challenges including limited space and safety with height, and so should be approached differently to building an enclosure in your back yard. In contrast, building an enclosure on a high-level balcony can provide protection away from adverse weather, and other threats such as dogs.

"We recently completed an enclosed patio off the kitchen and lounge side of the house. It was purposely made to accommodate our cat Zac. However the mesh filter blinds, that we intended to raise to let the winter sunlight in meant that Zac had to come inside. We tensioned a 7.5m x 1.8m piece of reinforced cat netting to the outside of our mesh blind frame to allow us to raise the blinds and so that we can all enjoy the cat proof patio in any weather. It was a quick process to attach the netting. Zac loves sitting in the sunshine and the cat netting has allowed more natural light to come into the kitchen as well. Now that we have found this product we can plan an enclosure on the other side of the house as well. Thanks"
