Netting Specific Questions
Why Use Netting?
Netting is an ideal material for use as a cat enclosure. It has many benefits including the following:
- It is very versatile and easy to work with. Netting can be cut to size, shaped around corners and used to fill small holes. It doesn't require any special tools, doesn't involve any heavy lifting, welding or building experience to install.
- It is affordable. With our netting avaialable just at $3.50 per square metre, netting is the best option for large areas that wouldn't otherwise be encloseable. Most catnets.com.au enclosures cost well under $200.
- It is strong and long lasting. Our specialised cat netting is designed to last. It is UV treated for outdoor use, has heat strengthened knots and is pre-stretched to avoid sagging.
- It looks fantastic! Netting (especially our low-vis netting) is barely noticeable once installed. Wire cage enclosures can have a dominant and overpowering appearance, whereas a low-vis netting enclosure looks subtle and soft. Please browse the image gallery for examples
- Unlike wire cages, the netting won't get hot-to-touch in the hot summer heat.
- Won't get caught by the wind like shadecloth.
- Is airy, and allows you cat to keep cool in the summer months.
- Unlike wire cages, there are no sharp and DANGEROUS edges
Is your netting long lasting and high quality?
Catnets.com.au is so confident in our netting products, we are more than happy to send samples for your inspection. All our cat nets are:
- UV stabilised for continued outdoor usage
- Pre-Stretched to avoid sagging and stretching over time
- Made with Heat-Strengthened knots to avoid knot slipping

How can I see the quality of the net before I purchase?
Just let us know your delivery address and we'll mail you out samples straight away.
Can I purchase by-the-metre?
Yes. Let us know your dimensions and we'll quote you accordingly.
Why should I enclose my cat?
Research has shown that the overwhelming majority of incidents involving cats occur at night. These studies have also shown that cats restricted at night live up to 3 years longer on average. Contrary to popular belief, cats can live and enjoy a happy and healthy life when properly contained within the backyard.
Catnets.com.au is a major supplier of cat netting throughout Australia. Based out of our two warehouses in Sydney, catnets.com.au offers a range of D.I.Y products, along with a series of recommended installation businesses across Australia.
By enclosing your cat you can help eliminate risk of the following issues:
- Injured in fights
- Hit by cars
- Become lost
- Catch diseases
- Neighbourhood nuisence issues
- Legal requirements
- Wildlife safety
"The house is over 125 years old, and we needed to retain the character, which meant it had to blend in. As you'll see, the low-vis netting is so unobtrusive that if you don't know it's there, you don't really notice it, which is great. Fortunately my landlady knows and loves my cats as much as I do, so their safety was also of importance to her. They (the cats) now feel safe enough from the traffic and the people wandering past to sit on the verandah, and night time is now a fine time for cats to sit in the cool evening breeze and relax. :-)
The net is secured using screw-in cuphooks top and bottom, and timber screwed onto the posts to secure the edges. I haven't managed to put up any hammocks or such as yet, they've got their armchairs and the plants to sit in. :-) When the house is locked up the cats can still get in and out through the windows - they fit between the security bars - and the chairs are postioned to make window access easy. I have yet to do the back verandah, which is a bit smaller, but the basic premise will be the same - except as there are no doors on the back verandah, I'll be using the zips and netting to secure the doorway.
The cats are very happy with the netting - their friendly humans can fit fingers through for petting and sometimes biting, but they're still safe from people they don't know. The local lizard population (and other wildlife) are also safe, and I don't have to spend weekends rescuing lizards. All in all it's great for everyone, and I have the peace of mind of knowing my catpanions are safe but can still enjoy being semi-outdoors. :-)
"Hi All, I wanted to show you my cat cage. I ordered your cat netting special for October $199 and I bought a gazebo for $229. I can also use the gazebo as well when I move. As you can see I really can't do too much with the yard as we are only renting. This was the best option as I didnt want my cat to be wondering the neighbourhood. This way she can chase flies, roll around on the concrete/dirt or eat some of the grass!! She loves it. There was plenty of the netting and it arrived within 1 day. Thankyou for having such a great product and having great customer service. "
I would just like to say what a great company Catnets is, every email was answered so promptly and easy to understand, the samples and brochure arrived the next day, I rang up and ordered 5m x 1.8m of net which was delivered by courier the next day, was left at my door as requested.
I am thinking of putting some more of your netting up as a complete cover in, but that at the moment is in the thinking stage only.
I am a mature lady who hasnt had very much experience in handyman/woman work but I did put it up myself and so pleased with it, thank you so much. Your web site is very easy to read and has heaps of information."
" As promised photos of our first cat enclosure using catnets (I am no photographer) . We basically enclosed 1/3 of our pergola with an entry back through into the house using the 40mm netting.
Can I say, your product is fantastic, price is great and it was very easy to use and install.
The zipper entry is gold.
Our bengals love their play area and we are looking forward to our next delivery of netting that we ordered today to build our super duper enclosure for our boys.
"We thought you might like to see some pics of our enclosure,
Thank you for allowing our beautiful Bengals to enjoy a freedom
they've never had before,
I thought that you may be interested in the cat enclosure that I have built using your low-vis 19mm netting.
Our existing cat enclosure ('Adventure Playground') is to the side and rear of our home, however, we enjoy sitting on our front verandah and after some 'visualising' I thought the front verandah and associated courtyard would also make a nice cat enclosure.
The attached photos show that I have generally run stainless steel wire through eyelet screws to fasten the netting at ground level, to the garage wall, the verandah pillar and to the underside of the gutter flashing. I attached pine battens to the underside of the flashing (as it would have been too difficult to attach eyelet screws to the metal flashing - much easier to screw them into soft timber).
I also picked up a second-hand screen door from the recycling depot and have hung this between the wall of the house and the verandah pillar (the verandah is the route from our front door to the garage, so we need the access). The cats get to this cat enclosure through our bedroom window - the window is dead-bolted, but open enough for them to get through - and I have cut the corner of the fly wire so that they can push through it. "
I recently purchased some of your cat netting, and did a DIY installation of our house in the eastern suburbs.
We chose a perimeter style enclosure that boarded our entire property, we didn’t use the metal brackets you supplied simply made our own.
Total cost : $380.
